The two work plans, approving funding of US$ 170,000 for 2011, are in line with the UN's strategic support to the Maldives.
The Deputy Minister of Health and Family, Ms Fathimath Afiya, and Mr Rune Brandrup signed the work plans on behalf of the government and of UNFPA. Ms Afiya, while noting the many challenges in the country, reiterated her department's commitment to ensure a successful implementation of the work plans. Mr Brandrup said UNFPA stood by to support the Government of the Republic of Maldives in its efforts to promote gender equality and to end violence against women.
