A series of 12 clips produced in assoication with TVM for the occasion of International Day of the Girl Child 2012. The first-ever International Day of the Girl Child was observed worldwide on 11 October 2012 to focus attention on Child Marriage, a harmful practice that devastates the lives of millions of girls who are married off each year, often to much older men and usually with little say in the matter. Fortunately, child marriage in Maldives is not a cultural norm. However, harmful practices that shut the door on future prospects of young girls exist that are often regarded as culturally taboo. Some of these include rising numbers of unregistered marriages and rape involving underage girls, child pregnancies, infanticides, infant abandonment and induced abortions. A number of these cases are reported to authorities and some are addressed by the media but a majority of the cases are unreported. The clips provide a platform for youth, religious scholars, human rights advocates and experts working in reproductive health area to voice their thoughts on some of the issues surrounding girl child relevant to Maldives.
