International Women's Day, 8 March, commemorates the achievements and progress of women and draws attention to the need to further advance gender equality.

This year, International Women's Day highlights the 20th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, a roadmap towards the realization of women's rights, signed by 189 governments. While a great deal of progress has been made since the signing of that historic document, many challenges remain, and women do not yet enjoy rights or opportunities equal to those of men.

The theme of this year's International Women's Day is "Empowering Women - Empowering Humanity: Picture It!"
